Description
A Victorian silver mounted clear glass claret jug of baluster form to a footed base, the applied plain silver neck with slightly domed and crested hinged lid and scroll thumb-rest, all with beaded border decoration, the double scroll handle with foliate detail. Hallmarked W & G Sissons (William & George Sissons), Sheffield 1879. Maximum height including thumb-rest measures 11 1/2 inches (29.2 cm).
Condition
Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general wear, surface marks and scratches. Some tarnishing to silver mounts and a couple of minor dints to silver neck. Hinged lid in good working order, possible repair round join of hinges Some surface nicks and minor nibbles to glass. Hallmarks are clear and legible, clear part hallmarks to lid.
