Ancient Rome, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A figural pottery relief depicting Cupid (his Greek counterpart being Eros), the god of desire and erotic love, standing with his chubby winged body in profile and playing a lyre or a harp his fingers plucking the strings, his face looking out toward the viewer for a response. In Latin, Cupid, the son of Venus and Mars, is also known as "Amor" meaning love. A sweet example conjuring the sweetness of romantic love. Size: 2.5" W x 3.375" H (6.4 cm x 8.6 cm)
