Mid 19th century Daguerreian gold brooch with a daguerreotype portrait of Captain John Smith. Circa 1840’s - 1850’s. Oval Daguerreotype mounted under glass in an ornate gold (approximately 14 kt) brooch. Back of brooch engraved “Capt. Joseph Smith”. Possibly a ship’s captain.

SIZE: 1 1/2” x 1 1/16” x 3/8” (38 mm x 28 mm x 11 mm)

PROVENANCE: Purchased in a New England estate sale 30 years ago.
