Description
"Course of the Mississippi River from the Balise to Fort Chartres; Taken on an Expedition to the Illinois, in the Latter End of the Year 1765", by Lieutenant Ross, hand-colored engraved map, published by Robert Sayer, London, 1 June 1775, plate 44" x 14", sight 44-1/2" x 14-3/4". Glazed, matted and framed.
Condition
In overall good condition. There are four horizontal creases from where the map was originally folded with light separation at one of the creases. A few other crease edges have been professionally reinforced from the verso side. There are scattered losses around map edges, notably to the upper right center edge near the separation. The map also exhibits some light surface soiling, toning along the edges and small scattered spots of foxing throughout. Condition issues are minor and are as to be expected with age and medium.
