Description
Pair of American Arts and Crafts Courtier Sawn Oak Morris Chairs, early 20th century, attributed to L. & J. G. Stickley, each with an adjustable slat back with three steps, the open arms joined with through-tenons, each with upholstered seat and back cushions, h. 39-3/4". Provenance: Succession of George S. "Dod" Stewart, Slidell, Louisiana.
Condition
In overall good condition. Both chairs exhibit normal minor mars, wear and abrasions. The finish has been resurfaced at some point. One chair exhibits slight looseness at the glue joint joining a rear leg and seat rail. It remains functional as-is. The other chair is tight at all joints. One seat cushion exhibits considerable sagging/collapse at its center. The back cushions, matching the seat cushions, are present, but not illustrated.
