Letter Copy Book fragment of Johnathan Williams (1751-1815) first superintendent of the US Military Academy and grand nephew of Benjamin Franklin. Book fragment was kept by Williams while serving as Commercial Agent for the United States Navy in Nantes, France during the American Revolution. Book fragment measures 17.5" x 11.75" and lacks boards and spine. Copies of letters sent by Williams start on January 18th, 1780 and go until February 18th, 1785 covering 166 pages with approximately 100 pages of blank sheets following. Recipients of letters include Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Joseph Wharton, Robert Morris among others.
