This depiction of a vase of roses is deceptively sophisticated. On first glance, it seems simplistic and pretty, but when you examine the composition and the expressionistic brush work, it reveals itself as the work of a trained modern artist. The simplicity and coloration is informed by the artist's knowledge of modern masters like David Hockney, Picasso and Matisse. Signed BOJ and dated '83, this oil painting is on a Norwegian canvas board. The painting was found in Chicago, and could be the work of an art student (whether an American or or a Scandinavian, hardly matters.) The artist shows accomplished talent. The painting board measures 18" x 10.75", the new gold frame is 20" x 13"
