Description
This impressive oil on canvas is titled The Great White Peak and was painted by American artist Paul Wesley Arndt (1881-1978) in the early 1940's. The view is a lake near Lucerne, Switzerland. Paul Wesley Arndt was trained by in Paris by Jean Leon-Gerome at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Some additional photocopied info on the artist is attached to the backing board (See the photo) and it mentions his history as a mural painter whose clients include theaters and cruise ships. The artist signed the canvas on front, and wrote the title and his name on the back of the wooden stretcher bar. There is also an inventory number, #6740. The painting size is 28" x 38", and the frame is 34" x 44" The painting shows some mild craquelure, as is fitting for a work of this age. The paint is stable, and has been gently cleaned and coated with a non-yellowing archival varnish. It is installed in a nearly flawless custom-made ornate gold mid-century frame.
