THE WASHINGTON LIFEGUARDS DRUMMER WHO BEAT THE DRUM AT MAJOR ANDRE'S EXECUTION
DIAH MANNING (1760-1815) Revolutionary War drummer attached to the 8th Connecticut, later serving with the distinguished Washington's Life Guard during the winter at Valley Forge, drummed at Major Andre's execution on Oct. 2, 1780, and then transferred to the 5th Connecticut. Fine content partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., Nov. 25, 1782, Manning's signed receipt for 19 pounds wages due to him effective January 1, 1782, undoubtedly for his service in the Continental Army. Small hole in blank margin, else very good.
