Ulmann's most enduring photographs, with tributes from musician and folklorist John Jacob Niles and Jonathan Williams. From Jonathan William's lively and warmly-written, as always, front flap: "If the images of Mrs. Bird Patten, Chever Meaders, Ella Webster, Covey Odom, Aunt Cord Ritchi, Haden Hensley, Wilma Creech, Aunt Lou Kitchen, the Meulungeon Boys, and the others do not move you, then it's a cold day in hell and it's too wet to plough....The Jargon Society is proud to present a fabulous and simple book. Moderate wear to unclipped dust jacket featuring Niles piggy-backing Ulmann as they cross Cutshin Creek. Wear includes 2.5 inch tear to bottom edge of front panel (apparently unsuccessful tape to verso), small closed tears to top edge of rear panel and corners, sunning to spine, toning to rear panel, light dust soiling, and moderate edgewear.
