Cars and Red Cross Plastic and Metal Chess Set, German, by designer and artist Alfred Bradler (Austrian/ b. 1942), Second Half of the 20th Century, each King in an open coupe Jaguar, Queens alternately in an XJ6 and XJ12 Jaguar, Bishops are Porsche cars, Knights comprised of Fiat Fiorino, Red-Cross Towers are Fiat 242s, White and Red Pawns are alternately VW land and dune buggies. Bradler’s set is a conceptual art work assembled from toy cars he collected in the late 1970s and early 80s (circa 1982).
