Description

Stoneware, brown salt glaze, partially with cobalt blue highlights, pewter
Inside of the lid with three pewter hallmarks; on the outside engraved ‘D. L. 1744’
Cylindrical tankard with pewter mountings at foot, handle and hinged lid with ball thumbpiece
Body circumferentially applied with pale dots as well as flowers enriched in cobalt
Height: 28 cm
Beautiful example of the cultural history of the famous tankards from Altenburg: the Thuringian town was once famous for its stoneware and its elaborate décor

Condition:

The tankard is in good condition, consistent with age and bearing usual signs of wear like surface abrasion, smaller bumps and fire cracks. Some pearls have been broken off. (nlu)
