A distinctive Janbiya dagger of the type common in the Arabian Peninsula, Gulf States, and north Africa. The handle and scabbard together measure 28.5 cm (11-1/4 in) in gross length. The curved blade with distinct medial ridge, measures 16.5 cm (6-1/2 in). The blade and handle together measure 28-cm (11 in). The scabbard is comprised of hand-hammered brass on wood with a hand-applied, incised cross-hatch pattern on one face. The blade has a decorative panel of four lines of Arabic script at the hilt and along the medial ridge on both faces. Much of the handle was replaced historically with lucite elements of differing geometric patterns. The blade remains sharp and in good to very good condition. The scabbard is also in good condition.
