Description
Late 18th or Early 19th Century Continental Short Saber. Iron hilt with a modestly decorated open-worked guard and brass wire-wrapped fish skin grips. 26-inch long single-edge, slightly curved blade. The blade is about 1 ¼-inches wide at the hilt. Blade with a false edge running to within 8-inches of the tip. One narrow fuller terminating at the start of the false edge; a wider fuller running to the tip. No visible markings or engraving on the blade. Urn-shaped pommel with capstan rivet.
Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces are dark with some old pitting on the blade and a few light nicks along the cutting edge. It appears the blade may have been shortened long ago. No scabbard.
