Great Gettysburg Related GAR Gavel.
10 3/4" overall, the oak head 1 1/2" X 3 5/8" X 1 1/2" thick. Turned oak handle with ring turned decoration. Each end of the gavel head decorated with 1/4" wide silver band attached with tiny brass brads. The reverse of the gavel has a fired .58 caliber Williams cleaner bullet imbedded in it. The front of the gavel displays a 1" X 2 1/4" silver plaque, attached with small brass brads, which is inscribed, "A Gettysburg Relic / Presented to Post 113 / by Wm Garrison Reed". Reed served with the 44th Mass. Inf. from 8/29/62 to 6/18/63 and was a member of the Edward Kinsley, Boston, Mass. GAR Post 113, serving as the post adjutant in 1895. Nice rich patina overall and a wonderful Gettysburg relic.
