John Gallatin Paxton, compiler. Memoirs and Memorials Elisha Franklin Paxton, Brigadier-General, C.S.A. [New York]: [Printed by The De Vinne Press], 1905. First edition, "Printed, Not Published". Inscribed on the recto of the front free endpaper "To / Hon. Henry Lamm / with my compliments and regards. / John Gallatin Paxton". Octavo. iv, 114 pages. Portrait of Paxton used as frontispiece. Contemporary blue cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the spine and front board. Top edge gilt all other edges untrimmed.
Paxton served on Stonewall Jackson's staff as Assistant Adjutant General and on the death of General Winder succeeded him as commander of the famous Stonewall Brigade. Paxton was killed at Chancellorsville shortly after the death of Stonewall Jackson. This work is composed of his letters from the field and were collected and arranged by his son.
Condition: Near fine. Trivia shelf wear to boards. Front hinge tender.
