Description
Rufino Tamayo, Mexican, 1899-1991, "Xipe", pre-Columbian figure, graphite and vermillion wash on paper, signed lower right and dated 1971. Accompanied by a hand-signed and numbered leather bound copy of "Arte Prehispanico de Mexico. Coleccion Rufino Tamayo" published by Galeria de Arte Misrachi; First edition, (1973). The book numbered 4 of the edition of 100, handsigned by Tamayo and other contributors, slipcased, this edition obviously scarce. PLEASE NOTE: This Tamayo drawing and its original clay inspiration (see the photograph 157 and later description) of "Xipe"was also selected as the embossed cover image for this edition.

Condition
vermillion wash splattered casually across the image, smudged graphite, both artist intent, otherwise very good. The book with toned interior at its front and back boards, its covers with minor scuffing, the spine worn at its top and bottom; the slipcase sound, but a 2" and 3" tear along two top edges of its reversable spine, other minor abrasions and stains.
