Arnaldo Coen (Mexican, born 1940), oil on canvas titled 'Olor A Lluvia (Scent of Rain),' artist signed and dated 'Coen '65' at lower right, 33.5"h x 29.5"w, overall dimensions including frame 35"h x 31.25"w x 1.5"d. Provenance: Acquired from the Galeria Juan Martin, Mexico. Exhibited: Museo de Art Modern, Mexico, Bosque de Chapultepec, Exposicion Inagural. With gallery and museum exhibition labels en verso. Arnaldo Coen, a self taught artist, began painting in 1956 with the encouragement of Diego Rivera. While working in the studio of Gordon Jones from 1956 to 1960, Coen was profoundly influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement in New York. By 1963, Coen began to incorporate surrealist elements to his work and received a grant from the French Government to continue his studies in Paris, where he became a founding member of the Salon Independiente. His work is currently represented in major museum collections in Mexico City and the United States.
