An Ottoman Dala'il al'Khayrat , in Arabic, illuminated manuscript on paper [probably Turkey, dated Rabi al-awwal 1250 AH (July/August 1834 AD)] 78 leaves, complete, single column, 13 lines of black naskh, some key words in red, two decorated headpieces, four additional leaves with marginal decorations (to final verses of sections), two illustrations depicting Mecca and Medina within the text, floral devices to margins, small gold roundels marking verses, a few small stains, first leaf rather stained with loss to text, final 4 leaves of Islamic prayers in another hand, contemporary gold-speckled green paper endleaves (perhaps originally used as covers), 165 by 105 mm. (written word 95 by 55 mm.) contemporary red morocco with flap, central floral medallion blind-stamped to covers with simple 's' design to outer border, rubbed and a little scuffed, spine repaired This text is a well-known collection of prayers and litanies devoted to the Prophet Muhammad for the purposes of daily recitation. It begins with the ninety-nine names of God and often, as here, includes illustrations of the Holy lands Mecca and Medina.
