Barrie Cooke (1931-2014) was an Abstract Expressionist artist. He was born in Cheshire but soon moved with his family to Bermuda and after The United States. He returned to England but did not settle and made his way to Ireland, firstly living in County Clare then Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. He was enamoured by all things Irish: the landscape, the people. He made a lasting friendship with the poet, Seamus Heaney. His travels to Borneo and New Zealand provided strong inspiration for his work. His style has been linked to the works of Oscar Kokoschka (1886-1980) and Jack B. Yeats(1871-1957). He exhibited regularly at The Kerlin Gallery in Dublin.35½ x 36¼ inches (90 x 92 cm.) (2)
