The painting composed of colored shapes which individual zones are surrounded by red outlines shows the beach of Vasto (Abruzzo), the hometown of the artist
Condition:
The painting is overall in a good condition, with tiny craquelure in some places, mainly in the center. Edges and corners show rubbed spots due to frame. The painting is framed under glass. The frame shows usual traces of age and wear as well as scattered loss of color.
Nicola Galante (1883-1969)
Nicola Galante was born in Vasto province of Chieti. He trained as a cabinetmaker at the School of Applied Arts in Chieti. He created his first woodcuts in 1912, a year later he began to study with the futuristic painter and illustrator Ardegno Sioffici. In 1922 Galante turned to the painting, which was initially influenced by Cézanne and Braque and the French impressionism. From the 1940s on the structure of his picture became more flat, the colors increasingly turned pure and bright, rather related to the Fauves.
