VERY RARE EDITION PRINTED IN VENICE OF THE MEDIEVAL MAIN TEXTBOOK OF PHARMACOLOGY BY THE JACOBITE CHRISTIAN DOCTOR JOHANNES MESUE

8vo (142x94 mm), nineteenth century full mottled leather binding, with three raised bands at spine, gilt title and decorations at spine, brown and red sprinkled edges; [332] leaves.

Yuhanna ibn Masawaih (about 777-857) [also written Ibn Masawaih, Masawaiyh, and in Latin Joahannes Mesue, Masuya, Mesue Major, Msuya, and Mesue the Elder] was an Assyrian Nestorian Christian physician from the Academy of Gundishapur. According to The Canon of Medicine of Avicenna and Uyun al-Anba of the medieval Arabic historian Ibn Abi Usaybi'a, Masawaiyh's father was Assyrian and his mother was Slavic.

Traces of use to the binding (some lacks at spine-ends). Occasional foxing and presence of some spots. Overall, good to very good copy.
