Reconstruction Era bond issued in aid of the Western North Carolina Railroad Company, State of North Carolina $1,000 6% bond with 59 coupons attached (lacking one in bottom right corner), vignette of state capitol top center and allegorical females in upper corners, signed by Governor W. W. Holden (After a sordid history, the Western North Carolina Railroad was bought by the state of North Carolina in 1870. The railroad was reorganized as the Southern Railway Company in 1894.); approx. 16 3/4"W x 22 1/2"H; good condition overall with one 2 1/2" diagonal tear on lower right side beginning at border at extending into corner of one coupon, other small edge tears, fold lines (Ref. 14)
