Description
Leeds Pottery (English, founded 1756), 19th/20th century. A covered creamware chestnut basket or bowl with stand. Bowl and cover are globular in shape with pierced bands and devices. Bowl has a scalloped edge and two handles composed of intertwined stems with flowers and foliage at the points of attachment. The dome shape lid is surmounted with knob in the form of a fir-cone. The circular stand with raised perforated rim. Chestnut bowl has impressed “LEEDSWARE CLASSICAL CREAMWARE ENGLAND" mark. The stand has black underglaze "ROYAL CREAMWARE/ Fine China/Est 1760/Made in England/Masterpieces" along with registration impressed stamp. Approximate height of basket 10.62", width 12.25". Approximate height of stand 2", diameter 12.62". Note: The Chestnut Basket & Stand, circa 1790, can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum located in London, England.
