Description
WMFor Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (Germany, founded 1880), late 19th century. A silver mounted hand painted biscuit barrel with a bale swing handle and removable circular lid, the cylindrical porcelain tapering body hand-painted in tapestry ware with a woodland view with flowering shrubs, trees and flowers. Hallmarked on silver rim with maker's mark for Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik and ''I/O'' mark with additional "N" indicating the base metal is nickel silver; the I/O is the standard WMF plating: 1 gram of fine silver spread on 10 by 10 centimeters. Approximate height 6.5" (to finial knob on lid).
