Inscribed inside the front wrapper by chess great and columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle George Koltanowski to Ernst Anders, winner in a Chronicle competition. Inscription dated May 1956. George Koltanowski (1903 - 2000) was a Belgian-born American chess player, promoter, and writer. Koltanowski set the world's blindfold record in 1937 by playing (and winning) 34 chess games simultaneously while blindfolded, making headline news around the world. He also set a record in 1960 for playing 56 consecutive blindfold games at ten seconds per move.
