Description
Ca. 1800, 237 x 164 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
An early Yomut main carpet presenting a kepse gül repeat in a brown-red field and a white-ground main border in which large, two-dimensional curled leaves are linked by a Turkmen wavy vine. An early date is indicated not only by the comparatively small size, but also by the quality of the drawing, the colours and the wool, which is soft and lustrous. – Obvious signs of age and wear, several holes as well as major repiled sections which now differ in colour. The lateral outer borders are missing and both ends somewhat reduced.
