The deep blue field contains a dense repeat of abrashed, light blue oval medallions enclosing three large roses represented in top view. Popular among the Iranian upper class during the Qajar period, the design is inspired by French Aubusson carpets. The ornately scrolled rocaille outlines of the plate-like medallions arranged in offset rows are a characteristic feature of the style. A garland of roses and leaves fills the main border. A very firm weave on a white cotton foundation. – Very good condition, the original selvedges are preserved, slight signs of wear at both ends.
