Description
Second quarter 20th century, 315 x 219 cm, North Persia
Due to wages rising sharply in the Iranian capital of Tehran in the early 1920s, part of its workshop production was relocated to the surrounding area, including the city of Varamin situated 40 kilometres south of Tehran. This large decorative carpet features a mina khani design, perfectly drawn onto the mid blue ground of the field, as well as a red-ground border of Herati palmettes with white arabesque outlines placed between white flowers and sickle leaves. Woven in the second quarter of the 20th century, it is a representative example of a new rug type that developed in Varamin at the time. – Very good condition.
