Second half 19th century, 356 x 120 cm, South West Caucasus
This blue-ground Kazak is filled by five large Memling güls placed within octagonal surrounds; ten squares with a cruciform interior drawing are arranged in pairs in the spaces between these primary motifs. Small decorative designs are scattered randomly across the field, and two human figures can be seen at the upper end. The white-ground main border contains boxes decorated with triangles. – Slight signs of wear in the pile, original selvedges and lower finish, restored upper finish.
