Description
Large Campaign pin badge from William McKinley (US President, in office 1897-1901), from his successful 1896 election campaign. Made of embossed brass. Three parts - an American Bald Eagle up top, a plaque which reads AN HONEST DOLLAR, and the large embossed portrait of William McKinley, facing left - Wm MCKINLEY / FOR PRESIDENT. A badge like this is displayed at the Ohio Statehouse, in Columbus, Ohio. An Honest Dollar is in reference to the Gold Standard, which McKinley strongly supported during the campaign, calling it "sound money". He is remembered for keeping the country under the Gold Standard coming into the 20th century. Circa 1896.
