Description
Pair of antique Kutani vases. Characteristic decorations with birds on both sides of each - an exotic yellow, brown and gray bird on one side and Swallow birds on the other. Two handles on each vase. All hand painted in predominantly iron red over a white ground. Well accented with gold. Japanese in origin, from the Meiji period (1864-1912). Both signed on the undersides in red, in Japanese characters. Condition
One of the vases (the one on the left of the first photo) is in excellent state of preservation and has no issues at all. The one on the right has been broken and repaired on the top rim, and has a shallow flake on the underside rim where it meets the table. Both hold water
