ENGLISH RIDGWAY PARIAN BONE CHINA CERAMIC BUST, having in pink transfer on front of small glazed plinth, "JOHN RIDGWAY ESQ ELECTED FIRST MAYOR / OF THE BOROUGH / OF HANLEY / AUGt 29th / 1857." having a Parian bust of John Ridgeway mounted on the plinth. Staffordshire, England. Circa 1857. 8" H.
Small flake on lip of bust and hairline crack on edge of base, upper Parian section glued at base.
Provenance: From the collection of the late Paul Fox, Washington, DC.
Catalogue Note: When Hanley was created as a borough of Stoke-on-Trent John Ridgway was voted mayor in 1857.
