Description
Probably 18th century, in the form of a sideways barrel on a columnar foot with top and side spouts and fluted handles, both sides painted with scenes from a village marriage, the ends painted "Jean Francois Barthelemy de Never 1795," the other "A Justin Bartholot Marinier Costa 1795," both sides also dated 1795; Nevers was the principal source for French faience in the 16th-18th centuries, and the images on this cask are typical of those found on post-Revolution pieces, displaying the theme of the Common Man. 8" H X 7" L X 5.5" D. Minor chips to some edges, scattered glaze pops.
