Description
A late Victorian diamond garland brooch, circa 1900, the foliate and ribbon bow surround set with old cut diamonds, centred with the name of the steamship Turbinia, set with old cut diamonds, 4.5cm wide Turbinia nicknamed 'The Ocean Greyhound' was the first steam turbine-powered steamship. Launched in 1894 it was shown at the 1900 Paris Exhibition and by 1927 it was out of service. It is now on display at Newcastle Discovery Museum.
