A stunning necklace boasting twenty five gold (not tumbaga) frogs, ranging from 10 to 14 karats, each in a traditional squatting position, with petite blackstone and greenstone rounded beads strung between them and trailing to the modern clasp. The frogs are arranged in a graduated pattern with the largest in the center, making for an attractive design. In the Pre-Columbian world, frogs (ranas) were associated with rain, all the sustenance that rainwater provides, and by extension fertility. A wonderful piece of wearable art from the ancients of South America, replete with artistry as well as layers of symbolism.
