First edition.
Warns against those seeking “fundar nueva Républica entre nosotros” and urges soldiers and civilians to resist the movement. Although at this point, the Republic was just a rumor, Montoya’s fears came true in 1851 when José María Carvajal, with the aid of Texans and others along the border, invaded northern Mexico, resulting in a series of battles that lasted until 1853, when Carvajal was arrested by the Americans. The idea of the Republic predated this broadside and continued to live on until after the Civil War.
