Ancient Roman Medusa Head Janeiform Glass Flask Ca. 1st - 2nd cent. A.D.Size:3-1/4”H.Rare Mold blown medium yellow glass Janeiform head bottle having a cylindrical neck and flared, folded under rim. Blown in a two piece mold in the form of youthful boys faces with tight curls, many times referred to as a Medusa head, faces differ slightly. Overall lightly encrusted surface patina. Repaired break through the hairdo, otherwise intact. A strongly embossed example.Provenance:Private CT. collection, acquired from Arte Primitivo, 2012, ex. collection of Dr. William Rubin, NJ., acquired 1970s from Superior Galleries, Los Angeles, to present owner by descent.
