Description
Diminutive Octagonal Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy, early 19th c., with metal inlay and ivory mounts, the front with a silverplate engraved "EF," the interior with a walnut lid, H.- 5 in., W.- 4 3/16 in., D.- 3 in. Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. An approximate ¼ inch crack in the ivory trim on the bottom. A piece of inlay is raised between two front panels. Slight separations throughout seams. Several 1 cm cracks to one section on back of lid. An approximate 1 inch section of inlay is lacking on the lid. White residue from a possible repair at two seams. A 1 inch cluster of scratches on the interior lid. Spots of grey residue throughout interior. A classic example.
