Description
China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. A small seated cow figure, mold-made and hollow, with fine details of the face and skin, made to be a mingqi, a tomb figure. Tang dynasty elites had underground tombs full of pottery figures that were made to care for their every need in the afterlife, and these figures could include hundreds of copies of livestock like this one for provisioning. Size: 3.8" L x 1.75" W x 2.3" H (9.7 cm x 4.4 cm x 5.8 cm)
