EARLY AMERICAN CASED PHYSICIAN'S MICROSCOPE - Acme #4 Microscope by John W. Sidle, circa 1885, in lacquered brass and black enameled iron. Wheel-made Lister limb style with substantial low base, marked "Queen & Co. Phila." and with s/n 2740 on the stage, signed double nosepiece, Bausch & Lomb marked opticals. Coarse focusing by straight rack and pinion, and fine via long lever, unusual fine focus knob under the arm instead of above, uncalibrated draw tube, swinging tailpiece carrying a gimballed plano-convex mirror (missing glass). Mahogany fitted case with Queen & Co tag on top. 13" x 8" x 6 1/2". Good condition.
