Saturday, May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe sung 'Happy birthday' for President John F. Kennedy at a celebration of his forty-fifth birthday. The song and Monroe's performance have been remembered for numerous reasons. It was one of her last major public appearances before her death less than three months later on August 5, 1962 and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy did not attend the celebration. This later silver gelatin was taken by photographer Bill Ray and is one of the most famous images of Marilyn Monroe. Very few images exist of Marilyn on stage due to tight security on the night.
