Richard Avedon was an American fashion and portrait photographer born in New York City in 1923. His iconic photos are said to have "defined America's image of style, beauty and culture". His portraits are praised for the way they capture the personality and soul of the subject, and some of his most famous subjects include Marilyn Monroe, Ezra Pound, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Andy Warhol, and more. He was also famous for his Paris fashion photography after the end of WWII, said to have symbolized the rebirth of a country hurt by war.
