Brazil, 20th century CE. A truly delightful collection of twenty-eight miniature pottery figures, all brightly painted, showing cowboys, native peoples, animals, clowns, people riding horses, etc. This is a set of figure depicting the Drama of the Bull, Bumba Meu Boi, (Bumba-meu-boi). This is a Brazilian folk theatre tradition telling a tale of a bull that dies and then is brought back to life. Some of the figures include the bull, a priest, a cowboy, a pregnant girl (usually played by a man), and the owner of the bull. Size: 2.5" L x 1.5" W x 2.8" H (6.4 cm x 3.8 cm x 7.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Morgan Collection, Santa Monica, CA.
