Description
A polychrome Etruscan kantharos, c. 4th - 3rd Century BC, of low profile, the body with rounded spikes protruding around the outside, a ridge between them and the narrow ring foot and small loop handles to either side. The rim is flared and the inside with concentric ridges, perhaps in the style of some kind of shell. The decoration consists of added lines in iron oxide over the beige slip. W: 6 1/8 in (15.6 cm); H: 1 5/8 in (4.1 cm). An interesting vessel with deposits throughout. Ex German private collection acquired in the 1970's.
