Hand-Colored Plan of Boston Town and Harbor by Bellin
c. 1770 Colonial Era, “Plan de la Ville de Boston et Ses Environs,” Jacques Nicolas Bellin, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine.
This is an original, lovely Hand-colored Printed Plan of Boston, text in French, on fine quality laid paper, measuring 10.75” x 8” with the Map image area 8” x 7” also including a distance scale at bottom. This attractive early plan of Boston and the harbor includes Charles Town and Isle Ronde. It shows the street plan of the town and wharves, and locates cannon batteries, powder magazines, Presbyterian churches, a prison, a town hall, a windmill, and a beacon. It indicates an offshore anchorage and the entrance channel and also depicts shorely topography with the roads running down to the harbor. A large “key” at left lists 16 important sites. Engraved at bottom neatline is “Tom. XXI.” This Map is very similar to the 1764 Berlin issue from the Petit Atlas Maritime, Tome I, No. 31, but the title and index are placed on the left. No folds, overall in bright extremely fine condition. A beautiful early map of Boston, perfect for framing and display.
