Description
Fine and Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, ovoid pitcher with footed base and short collar accented with tooling at the rim. Body of pitcher decorated with a slip-trailed design of grapes and graduated leaves extending from a wavy vine, which begins and ends at the base of the handle. Additional grapevine decoration around collar. Slip-trailed cobalt accents surrounding upper and lower handle terminals and accenting the center of the lower terminal. Appealing, early form with wonderful decoration. Professional restoration to reverse and left side of pitcher below decoration, extending a short distance onto underside. This restoration does not include any touch-up to the cobalt. Professional restoration to tip of spout. A 5" horizontal X-shaped surface line near base on front, not visible on interior. H 13 1/2".
