American, 19th century. A black walnut, maple, and shellwork sailor's Valentine box, having a hinged octagonal case, the top with a central scene depicting Cupid and Aphrodite, opening to reveal an interior fitted with multicolor Caribbean shell designs forming flowers and hearts. Lock and key present. Unmarked. Approximate height 2.5", width 10.75", depth 8.75".
