I am highly flattered by the attention paid to me by the Republican National Committee and particular friends of the President, although the unfair comments of Clinton Gilbert and Marc Sullivan are sometimes irritating and tempt one to make a sharp reply. I feel, as you do, that it is essential for the future of the Democratic Party that we win the next election. Very sincerely yours, Franklin D. Roosevelt."
