World War I, Lot of 4 Posters, "Blood or Bread" by Henry Raleigh, "Don't Waste Food While Others Starve" by Clinker and Dwyer, "Fight World Famine" and "Hey Fellows!" by John Sheridan, Extremely Fine to Near Mint.
1. "Blood or Bread" by Henry Raleigh, issued by the U.S. Food Administration, urges the public to not waste food. This poster was printed by Forbes in Boston, and is in excellent condition, with only a few very minor repairs in the margins. 2. "Don't Waste Food While Others Starve" by L.E. Clinker and M.J. Dwyer, depicts a starving mother and her children amidst the ruins of a city. Printed for the U.S. Food Administration by Heywood Strasser & Voigt Litho Co. in New York. This haunting poster is in near mint condition. 3. "Fight World Famine" is unsigned, and depicts a soldier fighting buzzards with a pitchfork. The message at the bottom urges enrollment in the "Boys Working Reserve." This poster was printed for the Department of Labor by Thomsen-Ellis Co. in Baltimore. This poster is in excellent condition, aside from a 1" repaired tear at top center, and a small, light, damp stain in the lower right corner. 4. "Hey Fellows!" by John Sheridan was published by the American Library Association for a United War Work Campaign during the week of November 11, 1918. This poster urges donations so that books may be sent to soldiers and sailors in combat. This poster is in superb condition, having a couple of now invisible professional repairs in the bottom margin. Each of these posters measures approximately 30" x 20" and has been professionally laid to a heavy linen backing for archival preservation and protection. A great group of posters on social issues related to the Great War. (4 items).
